Newsletters – 2013

November 2013

Fall is passing into winter and the holidays are arriving too soon for me. The grandkids are all excited and my wallet is quaking in fear. We won’t even get into the trauma poor Studs is suffering. But like every year, he’ll get over it and have more fun than anyone.

I hope you all have a warm winter and your holiday plans go smoothly.

It’s Time to Celebrate

Last issue our contest was to email me with NEWSLETTER in the subject line for a chance to win a copy of The Man in the Blue Flowered Shorts by Susan Lodge. Two names were drawn. And the winners were:

Next good news…

Another book released since you received the last newsletter. PHOTO Op! is an erotic romance and available through Musa Publishing or Amazon. Below is a brief description.

Sept. 20 – PHOTO Op!

Never mix business with pleasure, unless pleasure is your business.

Photojournalist Emily Peters gives herself the perfect birthday gift – a weekend in Paris. Her excitement builds when she hits the scene of the exclusive S&G Club. Exposing the truth behind their private pleasure chambers and the elite who frequent them will be the diamond in her career crown. At least Em thinks so until she’s tied up in knots by the Devil himself.

British restaurateur Nicholas Caine visits Paris to check on his S&G Club investment and to sample its many benefits. Nick’s not on the hunt until he encounters a tiger that pretends to be a kitten. There’s no doubt she’ll satisfactorily flex her claws given the right incentive.

What starts as a prime photo opportunity evolves into a weekend of erotic fantasies as Nick awakens Emily’s dark passions.

Excerpts are available on my website as well as Musa Publishing

Coming December 6 from Musa Publishing: Czech Mate

Pink boa and red stilettos…anything goes with Armani.

Life isn’t easy for American Lacey Blake when she’s stranded in Prague dressed like a dolled up hooker and nowhere to go. The cash-strapped American, boasting a pink boa and red stilettos that would make any working girl jealous, is saved by a staid giant in classic Armani.

Dragan Petrovic worked hard to shed the stigma of his youth and what his mother endured to put food in his belly. Now that he is a success, Dragan is determined his 5-star hotel will retain its unblemished reputation and no apprentice prostitute will launch her career in his lobby.

But one look in Lacey’s eyes proves there is more to the desirable woman than a micro mini and a push up bra. The urge to protect her compels Dragan to suggest an unconventional plan that stirs deep desires and alters their lives forever.

On A Personal Note

Folks, I have to do a little grandma bragging. Kid is my 16 year old girlie girl and a dedicated dancer. Her goal is to be a professional and her parents support her all the way because she has a rare ability and talent. In fact, they are such that she teaches three classes to dancers her age and older along with private lessons for several dancers. My close friend author Melissa Bradley has a connection at Julliard. Melissa discussed Kid with her friend who passed on a business card for my daughter. Now we’re all holding our breath to see what fate decides. If any of you are dance lovers, this is her solo from a competition on YouTube where she won First Place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBFvLcDzeU8&feature=youtu.be

Contest

It’s time for another Newsletter Members Only Contest. We’re staying with easy because that’s what we all like. There will be 2 winners. The prize is a free download of The Last Timekeepers and the Arch of Atlantis by Sharon Ledwith. This novel is a Heat Level 1.

Here’s the blurb:

Children are the keys to our future. And now, children are the only hope for our past.

When 13-year-old Amanda Sault and her annoying classmates are caught in a food fight at school, they’re given a choice: suspension or yard duty. The decision is a no-brainer. Their two-week crash course in landscaping leads to the discovery of a weathered stone arch in the overgrown back yard. The arch isn’t a forgotten lawn ornament but an ancient time portal from the lost continent of Atlantis.

Chosen by an Atlantean Magus to be Timekeepers–legendary time travelers sworn to keep history safe from the evil Belial–Amanda and her classmates are sent on an adventure of a lifetime. Can they find the young Robin Hood and his merry band of teens? If they don’t, then history itself may be turned upside down.

And a short excerpt:

Amanda Sault silently studied the words she just scrawled: May 1st, 1214–Games and songs and revelry, act as the cloak of devilry. So that an English legend may give to the poor, we must travel to Nottingham to even the score.

She frowned. She was the Scribe. Amanda knew that meant she was supposed to understand what this riddle meant. But she didn’t have a clue. All she knew was that she, her four annoying classmates, and two offbeat adults were standing in what was left of the lost continent of Atlantis and they were supposed to be the Timekeepers, the legendary time travelers handpicked by destiny to keep Earth’s history safe from evil. But no one had told them how they were supposed to do it.

Their problem: no matter what happened–good or bad–they weren’t supposed to mess with the past. Period. Dot. End of story. Amanda felt hot liquid build in her throat. Her thumb traced the words of the arcane riddle. Their first Timekeeper mission. Amanda knew this wasn’t the end of the story.

This was just the beginning.

On A Personal Note

Studs has four grandsons and I have two granddaughters that we combine into ours. They’re growing faster than my tomatoes! Three years ago we started measuring their height with a mark on the kitchen wall. I am convinced their parents are raising future giants. I won’t go into all of them, but I do have to share a little info.

Bear is 9 and an avid collector of important stuff he treasures. One of his true loves is books. Studs volunteered to hang shelving for the collection. Do I dare hope there’s another author in the family? Or quake in fear we are harboring a book critic?

JB is Bear’s 2 year old brother. This awesome tyke has had health issues that would make a grown man weep, but JB is a hero and plows right through. His latest love is car keys. He clamps onto them every chance he gets. Looks like we have a NASCAR driver in the making.

Tiger is 10 and a true sportsman. Whatever the season, he’s into the game and playing hard. Right now he’s in baseball and doing great.

Little K is 9 and loving her softball. Not too long ago she whacked a homerun that surprised her more than the spectators.

Musa Publishing and I have clasped hands and jumped over the edge with an eleven book contract. The books are two series and four single titles. Contest

It’s time for another Newsletter Members Only Contest. We’re staying with easy because that’s what we all like. There will be 2 winners. The prize is a free download of The Man in the Blue Flowered Shorts by Susan Lodge. This novel is a Heat Level 1.

Here’s the blurb:

Lyn enjoys reading romance novels, especially when she can combine it with relaxing in the Caribbean sunshine. But when a mysterious stranger joins the cruise ship, fiction and fact become dangerously confused.

When Lyn Redford’s sandal hurtles across the deck of the cruise ship, it makes her first introduction to Henry Matasie rather hostile. It wasn’t just that the man was seriously grumpy; he was a walking wardrobe disaster. Do you really need to wear woolen socks with your shorts in the Caribbean heat?

Following an embarrassing encounter in the cocktail bar with Henry, Lyn and her travelling companion Shona try to find out the reason for his strange behavior. Later, when Lyn accidentally reads his e-mail, she is convinced the man in the blue flowered shorts is deadly dangerous.

Henry swaps his awful holiday clothes for a dress suit to attend the gala dinner and the transformation sets Lyn’s pulse racing. But she is convinced he still hides a guilty secret and she is intent on discovering what it is.

And a short excerpt:

“Is this yours?”

The harsh undertones of the words jolt me from the Duke’s arms, and my eyes pop open to meet a pair of stormy grey ones. He holds out a sparkly red flip flop as if he wants to batter someone with it. The item has obviously upset him in some terrible way and I consider denying ownership. My gaze sweeps down past the lime T-shirt and the flowered shorts to the socks. I stifle a grin and hold out my hand to accept the flip flop.

“Please secure this properly. It blew across the deck in that gust just now and knocked over my drink. The screen of my Blackberry and my Financial Times have been ruined.”

He glances down to my chest where The Duke is still resting. His lips move into what I interpret to be a disdainful smirk at my choice of literature. I jerk up from lounging to sitting position and feel the back of the sun lounger stick momentarily to my back, causing the whole frame to lift from the deck.

The scream that follows, I think, is unnecessarily theatrical, especially from a grown man. The sun bed leg has landed on his foot–but it isn’t as if I weigh a ton.

His face contorts as he wrenches his foot free.

“These things are lethal, aren’t they?” I give the sun bed a scolding look followed by a little slap, thereby relinquishing any responsibility for its action. “Good job you had your socks on.” I try to keep a straight face but my lips disobediently spread in to a grin.

His grey eyes glint at me for a moment, making him look slightly less ridiculous. Then another sudden gust of wind whisks away his sunhat. We both watch as it blows over the ship’s rail, soaring gull-like on a warm air current in the direction of Barbados. Stripped of the silly head-gear, he looks ten times more threatening. I harness my laughter and push my face back into neutrality. He gives me a long assessing look and his anger seems to subside as he begins to talk in low, soft tones.

“If, Lady, our paths cross again on this vessel, perhaps you would do me the honor…”

Lisette is less than thrilled about spending a month at a moldering chateau on the French Riviera with only some dried up old scientist for company. However the hot man in dirty jeans tending his scraggly trees proves more of a garden fantasy than the nerd in a lab coat.

Every week Studs helps our friend Dennis with special needs swimmers. This weekend many of those young people go to the Illinois State Special Olympics. Studs and I drive down as well. Studs works with the boys and girls and I sit in the stands and cheer.

Little K tried out for the All Star Softball League and made it. Her weekly training is intense, but the girl loves her softball.

Kid turns 16 next month and still dances every chance she gets. She also teaches for two studios. Her dedication blows my mind.

Our grandsons are all in different stages of boyhood and absolute joys to be around. Each of them has a special way of melting my heart.

On Writing

Musa Publishing has requested to see three more of my books. They are eager for all and anything I’m willing to supply. Trust me – I’m ecstatic to deliver. Of all the publishers I’ve had, Musa is without a doubt the fairest and most helpful. Long may our partnership live.

Contest

It’s time for another Newsletter Members Only Contest. We’re staying with easy because that’s what we all like. There will be 2 winners. The prize is a free download of Love by Premonition by Holley Trent. This novel is a Heat Level 2.

Here’s the blurb:

The psychic didn’t go looking for love, but she should have seen it coming.

Marcia Andrews is a freelance psychic consultant. Sick of living hand to mouth, she accepts a contract with Raleigh Police. A new gang called The Cardinals is terrorizing The Triangle, and Marcia gives the department an edge in tracking them. Help that she is, one cop isn’t so keen on her involvement, and makes sure she knows it.

Detective Nat McCoy would rather see Marcia in his bedroom than the bullpen. The gorgeous Scotsman isn’t the typical chauvinist pig, though. He’s keeping a secret that even the psychic doesn’t anticipate.

A close encounter with a Cardinal’s bullet knocks Marcia off her game when the police need her most. She loses hours to trances and ghosts haunt her sleep. She can hardly function, and everything she thought she knew about playboy McCoy suddenly seems questionable. McCoy thinks he knows the cure for what ails her–him. But can she trust him?

And a short excerpt:

We could hear gravel crunching under Laura’s loafers warning us of her approach, and before he could unhand me, I slid my hands behind his neck and pulled his head down to me, placing a rough kiss on his lips. My intention had just been to shock him as he had shocked me so many times, but once I felt how soft his lips were and smelled his aftershave so close, it felt as if we were being trapped into each other’s field of gravity, our tongues finding each other’s after a moment and entwining readily, as if they were familiar to each other.

There was that jolt down the spine once more, this time far more intense than ever before. My face started to feel tingly, as if I had Novocain wearing off, and I couldn’t tell where my skin ended and where his began. He looped his arms around my back, pressing me in close to his body so I could feel hard things other than his gun, badge, and belt buckle.

My moan seemed to bring him out of it. He grabbed me by the shoulders and held me back at arm’s length, looking somewhat crazed in the eyes. “Don’t start it when you can’t finish it,” he mumbled just loud enough for me to hear, clicking his truck doors open from a distance. “Sit in the back, please. I can’t concentrate with you so close.”

On A Personal Note

Studs’ mom celebrated her 90th birthday at the end of February. The family all got together for a slam bang afternoon of great food and drinks.

Easter Sunday we’re having twenty-six family members for a sit-down dinner. Because I work alone day in and day out, it’s exciting for me to have a house full of laughing and chatting people. I look forward to those times even though it means Studs has to work extra hard mixing adult beverages.

Contest

It’s time for another Newsletter Members Only Contest. We’re staying with easy because many of you have emailed you enjoy it. There will be 2 winners. The prize is a free download, A Man Worth Fighting For by Sara Daniel, book two in the Wiccan Haus series. This book is a Heat Level 4 with explicit language.

Here’s the blurb:

He has nothing left to offer. She’s determined to show him just how much he’s worth.

Shot by a member of his military team, Justin Lawson retreats to the Wiccan Haus. Holly Walters refuses to accept her boyfriend’s out-of-the-blue rejection without an explanation, even if getting the answers forces her to be trapped on a bizarre island for an entire week. She’s going to use every minute to work Justin out of her system once and for all. Justin’s body and spirit begin to heal under Holly’s loving ministrations. As she talks about never seeing each other again, he realizes he never wants to let her go. But the rogue assassin who had gone after Justin before is after him again. Before he can fight to make Holly believe in their love, he’ll have to fight for both their lives.

And a short excerpt:

“How did you hurt your knee?” Holly asked.

“Occupational hazard,” Justin muttered.

That wasn’t very comforting, considering he was in the military and always going off on missions that he couldn’t give her any details about. “Did you fall and break it?”

“Bullet shattered it.” His words were clipped.

She flinched, wanting desperately to reach for him, hating to think of the pain he’d been in, the pain she’d known nothing about. “And how long before or after this happened did you send me an eight word break-up text?”

“About seventy-two hours after.”

She immediately knew she’d been right not to take his text at face value. The self-destruction of a client and the week of lost work were worth it. She’d needed this explanation. More than that, it proved there was still hope for them. “So you conceivably could have still been under the effects of anesthesia.”

“I wasn’t.”

“But you were on pain medication for sure.”

“Don’t make excuses for me. I was an ass. I broke up with you, and you deserve better.”
