May 8, 2006 | It's All About Writing

The Passionate Ink BIAW ended better than I had hoped. Friday I was ecstatic to post my accomplishment as 2082 words. It was a struggle at times, but I did it. My goal was 8000 words and I surpassed it by 14. Not a world record, I know, but damn I feel good about.

My new novel has direction, strong sexual tension, and two characters I am falling in love with. Don’t worry, Studs, you’ll always be number one. Does anyone have an opinion as to when they should make love for the first time? Should it be love? Or should they get down and dirty?

Today the writing has been so due to other unavoidable commitments. My calendar is clear for the rest of the week and I will produce!

Have a great week and I’ll be back Friday!

You did 14 more words than you planned, Sloane. So maybe this week it’s 20 more. It all builds up. πŸ™‚ Congrats on hitting your goal.

As for when your characters should make love for the first time. I’m not a firm believer in love at first sight. But lust at first sight..sure happens all the time. So unless they’ve already admitted their love for each other, I think it should be down and dirty. πŸ˜‰ Afterwards it can be love. As to when..(I realize that was your first question actually..lol) When it feels right in the pacing of the story. I’ve read books where the characters are in bed within the first chapter or so. Then others where they don’t do much of anything except kiss until the middle of the book. And both ways worked. πŸ™‚ Not much help I know.

I have faith that you’ll figure it out and it’ll be great.

Yay, Sloane! Over your goal is over your goal, no matter by how much. πŸ™‚

Even though I’ve heard erotic romance authors say their characters don’t make love until at least 1/3 of the way into the book (though the sexual tension is building the whole time), I have read books where they’re in bed right away but, as T.A. says, that’s lust. And that’s okay. LOL

Thank you, T.A. and Sherrill, for your congrats and input. You’ve confirmed what these two little sex kittens have been doing with each other.

Lust works for me! The tension is building and the bodies are tensing. Hmm, maybe it’s just me. Heeey, Studly…

Great! I can’t wait to read the hotel scenes. I’m betting those two can heat up the place, without a log on the fire. Although, I can picture another long, hard, firm log doing something else to fire up a fireplace. Write On, Woman!

  5. Sloane Says:

Yasmine, you horney woman, I have to keep you in mind and fulfill all your fantasies!

    1. Congratulations on your BIAW. That’s great you got the committmentt honored. Now all ya gotta do is finish it…which’ll be easy, for you.

    2. When they first hit the sheets is a difficult call, for me. When you’re building tension, attraction, lust, whatever, you have to follow some reasonable guidelines. No, I don’t know what those are. But, if you just toss sex in to be gratuitous, it won’t work. So if you build the tension, working up to it, there’ll logically be an explosion of sex fueled by raw lust at some point. That’s what honeymoons were like before the Pill.

Love, however, can come first, second, last or near the middle. THAT’S harder to call because you have to have shown how they came to be in love. There are a million ways for an imaginative writer like yourself to pull that off. All you gotta do is figure it out and dance on the keyboard till you get the feelings right. The words just sorta flow into place, then.

Keep up the good work. You’re doing exceptionally well, even if you DON’T have any discipline!!! (Like me) I just write when I feel moved to, I don’t do daily word counts, I’m still mood-swinging. Oh, well, it all comes out in the wash. And boy, this spin cycle has been running forever!

    Congratulations, again!

Whoo hoo Sloane! Over is over, doesn’t matter if it’s one or a hundred.

  8. Sloane Says:

Forrest, what would I do without youand all your encouragement? You’ve given me a boost and I’ll get my head out of my ass and start dancing!

You, youngblood, had better do the same. Remember the 2×4?

Thanks, Diva. I appreciate you being in my corner, even though I haven’t reciprocated lately.
