BLURB:
In the land of the rich and famous, people fulfill their deepest sexual desires by calling Kidnap Fantasies Inc., a top-secret kidnapping and fantasy organization.

When Jade Hart’s two sisters give her a Kidnap Fantasies Inc. questionnaire, Jade is aroused at the prospect of having sex with a stranger whose only job is to fulfill her every sexual fantasy. Although she knows she’s too shy to mail it in, she secretly pours her deepest wishes into the questionnaire. Soon it mysteriously vanishes and Jade’s fantasy man appears in the form of a well-hung handyman who gives her an erotic sex-toy-filled Christmas holiday she’ll never forget.

EXCERPT:
“Your clit is beautiful and puffy. Your cunt, soaking wet. Just the way I like it. Just the way I need you. You did good, keeping yourself aroused, Jade. You’re almost ready for me. But first, I have to prepare you. I’ll be back in a minute.”
Before she could ask him where he was going, he’d vanished.
A couple of minutes later, he returned holding the bowl of raw vegetables in his hand.

“I saw the way you looked at them during dinner. It gave me some delicious ideas.”

“What kind of ideas?” she could barely speak from all the excitement washing over her senses.

He grinned wickedly. “You’ll see.”

Instincts told her this man was going to do something to her with those vegetables.

Something wicked.

God help her she wanted him to do all sorts of things to her body.
Her senses exploded when he pulled a long thick carrot from the bowl.

Long male fingers stroked the orange object in the same tender way he’d done to it earlier after dinner. The carrot was about half the width of Caydon’s cock and about half as long.

“Vegetables are called the poor man’s sex toys, Jade. We’ll have to use these until I can get us some proper ones.”

Poor man’s sex toys? Until he can get proper toys? Exactly how long did he plan on staying? How long did he plan on having her tied up here?

The questions sat at the tip of her tongue but she didn’t dare ask. To tell the truth she didn’t want to know when he planned on leaving her. For now, she just wanted to pretend this man was hers, forever.

“Time to see how much you can take, Jade.”

“I can take whatever you dish out, Minnelli,” she threw back.

He inhaled sharply at her trembling words. His eyes darkened in the same way they’d done when he’d instructed her to pinch and pull at her nipples until the pleasure-pain had become so unbearable she’d cried out.

“We’ll see how much you can take, Jade. Spread your legs wider for me, honey. I’m going to give you something you won’t soon forget.”

Moisture dripped from her pussy at the husky promise in his voice. The scorching look in his eyes turned her body into a slab of heat and her cunt into a quivering mess. Even her breasts reacted to his intense gaze by tightening, swelling, becoming hard and eager to be caressed.

He leaned over her, the warm head of his rigid cock poked deliciously into her belly button as he grabbed a nearby pillow. Fluffing it up he stuffed it beneath her hips, which allowed him to raise her up higher exposing her fully to him.

“There, that’s much more comfortable. This will give me the perfect angle to enter you.”

BLURB:
In the near future, a virus has been unleashed, killing a majority of the world’s female population, forcing the introduction of the Claiming Law. A law that states men have all the rights and women are sexual property claimable by groups of men.

Laurie Callahan has always experienced red-hot pleasure and passionate love in Tyler Outlaw’s arms. But when he’s pronounced MIA, presumed dead in the Terrorist Wars, her world is shattered and her heart broken.

For years Tyler Outlaw and his best friend Hunter Brown endured brutal torture and worse in a terrorist prison. Finally free of their hell, they return home intent on seducing Laurie into their erotic-filled fantasies.

Shocked to discover Tyler is alive and he’s taken a male lover, Laurie is thrust into a sensual world of sizzling seductions, scorching ménages and the carnal desires that both scarred men crave. But she fears Tyler won’t want her when he discovers she’s not the same woman he left behind.

Reader Advisory: Contains references to non-consensual sex.

EXCERPT:
“Are you glad Tyler’s back?” he suddenly asked.

His question slammed into her like a bolt.

“You’d better close your eyes and sleep, Hunter. You still have a fever.”

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“Of course I’m glad he’s back. Haven’t I let him—” She stopped herself cold. She’d been about to say hadn’t she allowed him to outfit her with a butt plug? With Hunter watching? Hadn’t she let him finger-fuck her in the meadow? And just now he’d been between her legs going down on her.

Her cheeks flamed hotter. From behind her Tyler chuckled softly.

Hunter smiled and said, “I’m getting the feeling Tyler has already started reacquainting himself with you. Showing you how glad he is to be back. Let me show you how glad I am to be back, Laura.”

She blinked at his words. Tried to disconnect from the magnetic teasing in his eyes, tried to ignore the lust flaring through her. Lust that made her nipples harden and her breath come faster.

“Close your eyes, Laura,” he said.

His voice caused turmoil inside her abdomen and she swallowed back the fright edging through her. Why was she reacting so strong to this man? She was supposed to be in lust and love with Tyler not Hunter. And yet she found herself aroused in his presence. Aroused just like when her fantasies of Tyler and Hunter hit. But this wasn’t a fantasy, this was reality.

Despite reality though, she found herself closing her eyes when he palmed her clothed left breast. He was cupping her. Cradling her. Testing her weight. And it felt so good.

“Tyler and I have waited a long time for you.”

“I…I don’t understand,” she murmured.

“You are all we talked about in prison. You were our escape from hell. You are our heaven. I know every intimate detail about you. What you like. What you dislike.”

She found herself trembling at his words. His touch.

“You’ll need some time to get reacquainted with Tyler. I’ll give it to you. You’ll need time to get used to the idea of my wanting you with every fiber of my being, my entire soul. But don’t be frightened. I love you as deeply as Tyler does, although you and I have never been intimate…except for that mind-blowing kiss.”

Confusion ripped her back to her senses. He wanted her. He loved her as much as Tyler? Not possible.

She pulled away and stood.
His eyelids were droopy. He looked sexy that way. Too sexy.
She couldn’t believe how hot and swollen and aching her left breast felt after he’d touched it for mere seconds.

He smiled. A sexy smile, a knowing look.
“You’ll enjoy what we have planned for you, Laura. You’ll love it when the butt plug comes out and we come inside of you. We’ll make all your sexual fantasies come to life.”

Laurie stepped back, shaking her head in denial.
Was that the only reason Tyler had outfitted her with the plug so he could share her with Hunter? He couldn’t have changed so much, could he?

“Don’t run away from us, Laura. I know you want us as much as we want you. I can see the hunger in your eyes. Just as I saw it in Tyler’s in prison. The three of us together, baby. Just as you and he were before the Wars. Just as he and I were during the Wars. You and me and Tyler after.”

This was crazy. Had what he’d said in his delirium been true? That he and Tyler were lovers?

And what about her reaction to his touch? Was it due to the X-virus? Or her true feelings?

Disbelief and confusion brought a rush of tears to her eyes. She was about to turn and run from the raw lust shining in Hunter’s eyes, away from the need heating her body, when she backed into a solid wall of hard flesh.

Strong hands curled over her shoulders, making her cry out in surprise.

“Easy, Laura. Easy.”

Tyler! She’d forgotten he was in the room. How had she so easily forgotten?

Her surprise disintegrated at the feel of his solid erection pressing against the crack of her butt cheeks while he steadied her. He was still turned-on. Turned-on by watching Hunter and her.

The Queen of Hot Sizzles

March 8, 2010 | Friends

Six years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Jan Springer, a writing marvel and terrific person. After reading some of my work, Jan advised me to quit my day job and write full time. It was the best advise I’d ever received. Today, I’d like to introduce you all to this phenomenal author.

Jan Springer grew up in both the city of Oshawa, Ontario Canada and during weekends and summer holidays in the rustic woods of Haliburton Highlands in Northern Ontario’s cottage country. As early as the age of three she was fascinated by words. Around the age of twelve she secretly began to write short stories using characters from the television shows she watched.

While sixteen she visited relatives in Europe and picked up a copy of Harlequin’s Summer Rainfall by Kerry Allyne. Immediately she became a voracious reader of romance.

As she grew older, writing took a back seat in life and she pursued careers in hairstyling and accounting as well as doing temporary office and factory jobs as well as a few years working on an apple/blueberry farm. Through all her adventurous jobs, the urge to write continued to burn at the back of her mind.

In July of 1997 her writing life began to take focus following a car accident. Suddenly she realized she was wasting her time in not pursuing her true passion. She began with writing courses and studying the way authors write.

In 2000 she became electronically published and self-published and hasn’t looked back. Jan now writes for a living and is thankful for every minute she can write. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Passionate Ink, the erotic romance chapter of RWA. Her hobbies include kayaking, hiking, photography and tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She loves hearing from her readers.

You can learn more about Jan and her thigh squeezing books on her website and on her blog.

BLURB:
By day she’s a dedicated gynecologist.
By night Dr. Ella Cinder escapes reality by secretly performing in her own erotic, adult version of Cinderella, aptly re-titled Sinderella.

When sexy colleague Dr. Roarke Stephenson shows up in the Sinderella audience on the same night her Prince Charming stands her up, Ella seizes the opportunity to have Roarke for one carnal night of hot, blazing sex…in front of an audience.

But at the strike of midnight, Ella knows she must face harsh reality. Roarke can not learn her secret life and they can not be together again. Until then, she plans to make sure he never forgets their night of carnal play.

Dr. Roarke Stephenson is immediately captured by the lusciously curvy actress who hides behind a mask and is known only as Sinderella. For some insane reason she reminds him of his klutzy co-worker Ella. But that’s not possible. Ella would never have the nerve to do the wickedly delicious things Sinderella does to him…or would she?

EXCERPT:
Ella’s heart raced as she lay bound and naked on the gynecologist’s examination table. A fine sheen of perspiration laced her skin. Her hips undulated as Roarke fucked her with the dual vibrator. Sucking sounds of her soaked pussy clutching the sex toy just about drove her mad. Her well-lubed ass burned with pleasure-pain every time he thrust into her and the erotic way the stimulator slid softly over her aching clitoris had her pulling against her bound legs and wrists as she tried to escape the incredible sexual tension.

The rhythmic motions made her body hum, pulse, ache for release.

He’d kept her on the edge of a climax for so long she could barely think straight.

“I’ve wanted to do this to you since the first day I met you, Ella,” his deep voice smoothed over her flushed skin like a jolt of lightning.

“You want more, Ella?”

Excitement flared like a firecracker. Her body trembled.

She could barely see him through the sexual haze. Could hardly see his sparkling, lust-filled green eyes or the sexy smile he reserved only for her.

Oh, God!

She wanted his long, thick cock inside her, not the freaking vibrator!

“I want you,” she pleaded hoarsely, and thrashed her head back and forth. She needed to come so bad. Needed release or she would simply go mad with desire.

“Please, Roarke, please make love to me. Please fuck me,” she whimpered.

“And so you shall have me, Ella,” he said hoarsely. His face twisted with sexual hunger. “You shall have my big cock deep inside your tight little pussy—”

“Good morning, sorry I’m late,” Dr. Roarke Stephenson’s deep, masculine voice slammed into Dr. Ella Cinder’s fantasy like a sensual punch, making her suck in her breath and spill her coffee onto the elaborate oak conference table.

“Christ, Ella! You’re such a damn loser!” her stepmother’s harsh whisper made her flinch and Ella quickly threw a pile of napkins over the puddle of steaming coffee.

Her face flamed as her two stepsisters, Drs. Wanda and Manda Cinder elbowed each other gleefully and chuckled snidely beside her.

Bitches! Ella thought as she pushed against the bridge of her old black-framed glasses in order to keep them from falling off her nose while she wiped at the steaming coffee. From the corner of her eye she spied the man of her frequent sexual fantasies stroll into the room.

He scowled at her stepmother, obviously overhearing her rude remark, but thankfully, he said nothing. Roarke was still relatively new and she didn’t want him getting into trouble on her account.
When he passed by, his delicious male scent slammed into her with such a wicked force her senses spiraled into sexual awareness mode.

Oh, God! He always looked so damned sexy. He wore the traditional white lab coat fully opened, revealing a light green shirt that stretched across his big chest as well as a pair of tight jeans that cradled his awesomely huge bulge. With shoulder-length black hair pulled back in a tight ponytail and a shadowy stubble covering his strong jaw, he looked more like a dangerous bad boy than a prestigious gynecologist.

Kick-Ass Chicks Are Cool

March 1, 2010 | Friends

It’s wonderful to make new friends and even better to share them. Today, I’m going to do just that. Please allow me to introduce you to a woman with more balls than most men.

The name’s Maxie Briscoe and I am a werewolf…

That’s right, a real live, full moon-loving, Halloween icon. It’s hard out here for girl like me. To survive, I hide my true self and act the part of a normal human, all while discreetly indulging the Beast within. Talk about walking a narrow ledge. And that’s not even the worst part. Sex is. You see I can bench press a pick-up truck and that spells disaster in the bedroom. You can’t have any real fun knowing you might accidentally crush a lover while in the throes. Kind of kills the mood.

MAXIE BRISCOE: WEREWOLF
Melissa Bradley
Amber Quill Press
ISBN-13: 978-1-60272-650-5 (Electronic) $5.25
ISBN-13: 978-1-60272-806-6 (Paperback) Available Mid-March

When a friend’s murder shatters the careful existence I’ve carved out, I come face to face with Damien and Noah, two of the hottest men I’ve ever laid eyes on. They are also the first werewolves I’ve run across since my conversion. The attraction is instant, but complicated, the sex… explosive.

Too bad there’s a killer out there with his sights on me …

EXCERPT:

Maxie meets Damien and Noah for the first time…

They materialize from the darkness, hunters intent on their prey. Me.

My breath hitches, the animal inside rippling beneath my skin. I’m nervous, but I refuse to let them see. This bitch rolls belly-up for no one. I stride onto my front porch, prepared to defend my territory. Dressed in loungewear, I am hardly the picture of a strong alpha female, but you go with what you got. I look them both dead on.

I fold my arms over my breasts. “What do you want?” I growl, my voice a low rumble.

“We’ve come for you, little one.” With a voice like muffled thunder, the taller of the two moves forward onto my lawn. Twisted steel with sex appeal about sums him up. His dark hair is pulled back in a tail, tee-shirt molded to his cut frame.

My nostrils flare, catching his scent, fresh like a mountain spring at first thaw; my female parts quiver in anticipation. I want to coil myself around him like a python on a Kapok tree, hugging
every hard inch of flesh. Ruthlessly, I shove down the urge. It’s dangerous. Ulterior motives are written all over the two of them, and I just know one of those motives is to dominate me.

“It took us a long time to find you, Maxie.”

The whisky baritone draws my attention, and I watch the other one emerge, lean and graceful, his muscles liquid precision. Definite hotness is woven into the male half of the werewolf
genetic code. His scent is warm and dark, like night in a jungle. My nipples bead with excitement as he lopes toward me, brushing past the larger wolf. He stops at the base of my stairs, conqueror
etched in every line of his body. This is definitely the alpha of the pair.

“Didn’t know I was lost.” I widen my stance, ready to spring. If he’s looking for a challenge, he’s got one.

He smiles, teeth bared, the faint light from the scimitar moon exposing the predatory glint in his eyes.

I can feel the hunger resonating through them, matching my own deep desire.

“We can smell your craving, little one,” the taller one rumbles as he joins his partner.

I hate arrogant assholes. “Is this the part where I’m supposed lie back, spread my legs and say, ‘Do me like Red Riding Hood, you Big Bad Wolf’?”

They chuckle in that knowing, masculine way, the sound like tropical waves lapping along my insides, teasing and inviting.

“She’s more than we imagined, my friend.” The dominant wolf smiles over his shoulder at the other one as he starts up the first step.

“Hold it right there, Romeo,” I snap.

He stops, huffs out a breath and moves back to his original position. “The name is Damien Black. And this is Noah Rayburn.” He jerks a thumb toward the larger guy who inclines his head with a gleaming look in his eyes.

They stand there, watching me, probably wondering when I’m going to quit being so difficult and invite them inside to fuck. Maybe I will and maybe I won’t. All depends on their
explanations.

Grimm is GREAT!

February 1, 2010 | Friends

If you like dangerously sexy suspense and page turners that refuse to let you go, then you won’t want to miss NOT WITHOUT RISK, the new release by incomparable author SARAH GRIMM. I had the pleasure of reading this book and fell in love with Sarah’s strong creative voice and her gutsy, yet vulnerable characters. Trust me, you will too.

To learn more about Sarah and her other books, catch up with her on her kick-ass website or at her blog Off the Keyboard.

Be sure to read through this post because at the end there’s a nice surprise for you. 🙂

NOT WITHOUT RISK
Sarah Grimm
The Wild Rose Press
ISBN: 1-60154-634-3 E-Book $6.25
ISBN: 139781601546340 Paperback $12.99

BLURB:
Six agonizing months after a slug collapsed his lung, Sergeant Justin Harrison manages to return to the one place where he shines—the San Diego homicide division. Nothing will stand in the way of proving he is fit for active duty. Especially not the long-legged brunette who just stumbled into his crime scene.

Photographer Paige Conroy spent years hiding from her past. Then a late night telephone call brings it crashing back. An old friend is in town and needs her help. When she arrives at his hotel room four hours later, he’s dead. Suddenly, she’s the target of a madman, and Paige must turn to Sergeant Harrison for protection.

But who is the bigger threat to her… the faceless assailant she fears will steal her life or the dark-eyed detective she knows could steal her heart?

EXCERPT:
Her hand reached out for him, settled lightly against his left side, just below his sidearm. “What about you, Justin? Do you know, too? Is that what happened to you?”

Her words splintered through him. He swore softly and stepped back, forcing her to drop her hand. “That doesn’t matter now.”

“I think it does,” she persisted, her eyes dark and churning with emotion. “I think it matters a great deal.”

What could he say to her that wouldn’t add to the fear already churning through her? “Paige, please,” he said, attempting to turn the conversation around. “We need to discuss getting you out of here.”

“I’m not leaving. I won’t be driven from my own home.”

“You shouldn’t be alone.”

She lifted her chin, determined to show him strength even while her hands shook. “I’ll be fine.”

Frustration wound deeper. He rolled his shoulder where his muscles knotted painfully. “Listen to me-”

“You aren’t going to tell me are you?”

Justin set his jaw.

“Why not?”

Because she mattered to him. Because the truth about what happened to him six months ago would hurt her, push her away and he didn’t want that. Not when he ached to draw her back into his arms, ached to have the sweet, potent taste of her swimming through his system again.

Too late he realized his silence had the same effect on her. Already, her eyes were going cold and distant as she pulled her emotions tightly under control. Only this time, it wasn’t fear she wanted to keep at bay, but him.

The knowledge stung. It didn’t matter that by distancing herself from him – emotionally and physically – she was probably doing him a favor. He’d already spent enough time thinking of her when he should have been concentrating on his job. Recalling the scent of her, the feeling of rightness that filled him when he held her in his arms. When he was supposed to be reestablishing his place in the department.

He needed to remember that any further involvement with her would be a colossal mistake. That he couldn’t afford the distraction Paige Conroy represented.

Still, the ache in his chest as she withdrew even further took him by surprise.

“Tempting as your offer is,” she said quietly, as she eased across the room. “I won’t go home with you. I can’t sleep with you, Justin. You say it doesn’t have to be that way, but you and I both know that’s the way it would be.” Her arms slid around her middle. Her gaze met his. “You’re a risk I can’t afford to take.”

Get Turned On With

January 25, 2010 | Friends

by exciting new author MARIE TUHART. Her first novel, IN PLAIN SIGHT has just been released by Wild Rose Press. And we’re talking thigh squeezer. It’s a read you won’t want to miss.

Allow me to introduce you to Marie!

ST: Hi Marie, thanks for coming out today and congratulations on your first release. Before we discuss IN PLAIN SIGHT, please tell us a little about yourself.

MT: Hi Sloane, thank you so much for having me. I began writing at the tender age of 19, and in 1994 decided to join RWA after years of going to college to get a degree in computers. A lover of romance books, there was nothing better than writing them. In the early 2000’s I discovered erotic romance, and knew I’d found a home. In 2004 I took a class by Jan Springer on how to write erotic romances, and since then I’ve never looked back.

ST: Our readers are interested to learn more about Marie the person. It would be great if you’d fill us in on a few things. Such as what are your favorite hobbies or things in life?

MT: I love to read and play computer games. I’m always browsing my way around bookstores, both new and used.

ST: Is there anything you’d secretly like to do that you haven’t?

MT: I’d love to take a hot air balloon ride, but that’s a little hard because I’m afraid of heights.

ST: I can relate to that. 🙂 What’s your routine on a normal day?

MT: Is there such a thing as a normal day (VBG). Because I have a day job, I get up at 4 a.m. and head off for the job which starts at 5:30 a.m. I write on my lunch hour, then head for home at 2 p.m. Most days I exercise from 3p-4p, then once I’m home, there’s dinner to cook, dishes to clean up, lunch to get ready for the next day. I check email, go to other writer’s blogs, comment on blogs, bills, etc. Around 9 p.m. I head for bed to start the cycle all over again the next day.

ST: Woman, you are one active person! Why do you write?

MT: Because I want to, I love to write stories. I’ve written stories since I was a teenager, so writing novels was an adventure for me, and it still is. Each book is different from the last.

ST: What’s your favorite part of writing?

MT: Watching the story come together in ways I didn’t even think about.

ST: What do you absolutely hate about writing?

MT: Re-writing. My first drafts are dialogue heavy so I have to go back and write in setting, emotion and other things to make the story fuller.

ST: What does the future hold for Marie Tuhart?

MT: Well, I hope lots of sales. 🙂 I’m currently working on two more erotic romances for The Wild Rose Press and waiting to hear on a contemporary romance.

ST: Thanks for taking the time and I wish you much success.

MT: Thank you and I hope you and your readers enjoy IN PLAIN SIGHT.

ST: To our readers, you can learn more about Marie and what the future holds for this talented author on her website and on her adult blog where Marie has a new post every Monday.

Here’s an enticement to show you the caliber of this exiting author:

“You’re too dangerous.” The words slipped out before she was even aware of voicing them.

His eyes widened, and another of those sexy devilish grins spread across his lips. “I’m not dangerous. I’m a teddy bear.”

Victoria gave a snort of laughter. He took another step into the room and suddenly her bedroom felt too small. Now the man invading her territory. “Grizzly bear is more like it,” she muttered.

“A man,” he said, taking two more steps. “A man who wants to get to know you better.”

“If we get to know each other any better, we’ll be arrested.” Her gaze locked with his. He stood less than a foot length from her.

“I got things a little backwards last night.”

“Backwards?” That was an odd word to use. She tilted her head to one side and stared at him.

“Yep, backwards.” His arm rose, and he caressed her cheek. “Making love to you in the elevator was impulsive.”

She opened her mouth.

“But,” he continued before she could get a word out. “I don’t regret one second of it.”

A Good Neighbor is Easy to Love

September 15, 2009 | Friends

I met Clare London several years back by sheer good luck. Her’s was the first m/m book I’d ever read, and I was impressed. Clare’s work is tasteful, filled with romance and a strong plot. Not only is my good friend a brilliant writer, she also has a terrific sense of humor.

Clare took the pen name London from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with the weekly wash, waiting for the far distant day when she can afford to give up her day job as an accountant.

She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with novels and short stories published both online and in print. Clare says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic and sexy characters. Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter 3 stage and plenty of other projects in mind…she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.

All the details and free fiction are available at her website. Visit her today at her web site and say hello!

Here’s a little on Clare’s newest release. I think you’ll enjoy it.

BLURB:
Dylan admits it himself, he’s a relentlessly single man in a small town, consoled only by being a good teacher and a devoted nephew to his Great-Aunts.

When the Aunts take a hand in matchmaking him with Josie, the girl down the street, Dylan doesn’t tell them what kind of soulmate he’s really looking for—and the fact that he’s already found the man in question, Josie’s brother Neal. But a secret affair can’t go on forever, can it?

Faced with a heart-wrenching decision when his chance at love seems to be moving even farther out of his reach, Dylan knows it’s time for him to own up to what he wants…and what kind of man he really is…

EXCERPT:
…I walked up the drive to the Whitman house, the gravel crunching under my boots. There was no sign of life anywhere, either in the gardens or from inside the house. My heavy footsteps broke the silence, my presence a gauche human intervention in the cool calm of nature. Because the house was at the far end of the street, it had no neighbor on the other side and this allowed it far more grounds than any of the other properties. The front garden was bordered with flourishing, dark-green ornamental hedges. Between them and the high gate and wall, the house was sheltered from both the street and prying eyes. Or at least, I’d always thought it was.

I stopped a few feet away from the front steps and took a deep breath. The contrast between this and my own family home was very marked. I suspected the Whitmans were considerably stronger financially than I was, but I was also sure Josie was better at keeping on top of the repairs and maintenance. It was the same size house, but in far better condition. The brickwork was neat, the paint wasn’t peeling, and the lawn was neatly trimmed at the edges of the path. My house aimed for faded charm. Theirs aimed obviously for elegance, and met it, too.

I knocked loudly at the front door, making my gestures very obvious. After all, I didn’t want the Aunts to miss a second of my visiting routine, did I? Now I knew of their secret voyeurism, I could imagine Mitzi at the window of my top floor guestroom, from which she’d obviously found a view of the Whitman’s home over the wall. I was pretty sure she had to stand on a chair and peer over the curtain rail, but that wouldn’t have discouraged her. I worried she’d hurt herself, at the same time wondering how the hell she got up and down the stairs so easily and swiftly at her age. And I also knew that if I turned back now to look up at my house and caught her at that very window, she’d drop back into an innocent, languid pose as if yearning for a faraway suitor, rather than spying on her former ward.

I smiled to myself and clutched the overblown bunch of blooms Bess had insisted I take with me. I felt hot and awkward in my jacket and smart shirt. Hoping that Mitzi might have tired of staring at me, I ran a hand through my hastily combed hair, ruffling it back up.

Damned if I couldn’t hear in my mind Bess’s snort of disapproval at my slovenly behavior.

The door opened abruptly. For a few seconds, I just stared. My heart was hammering, fierce as anything. But the smile that greeted me was broad and mischievous and full of a welcoming love for life. It was also very familiar. Dark, strong features. With a mental nod to the Aunts, I stepped inside. My sight began to adjust to the change, the hallway furniture throwing elongated shadows across the pale, waning sunlight, and then the front door slammed behind me as if cutting me off from the life outside…

And I was plunged into another one.

I never had a chance to speak. The bouquet was snatched from my hands and flung onto the low table by the door. I was pushed back against the wall and a hard, flat chest pressed against mine, hot breath panting in my ear, broad hands reaching to push my jacket off my shoulders. Strong hands. Impatient.

“Fuck.” The voice was harsh and masculine. A man’s face brushed against mine, the jawline rough with a half-day’s stubble, the eyes gazing hungrily at me. “You’re early! I thought we said tomorrow.”

I laughed aloud, partly from protest, partly from the sheer joy of the touch. He was a few inches taller than I was, his body stocky, his shoulders broad. As he opened his arms to wrap them around me, the faded fabric of his shirt stretched tight across his chest, accentuating the sinewy planes of his torso.

“The Aunts insisted I come over today. I didn’t know when you were planning to arrive. If you were. Look, I can go…”

“Don’t you fucking dare!” he snapped, but his eyes danced with pleasure, not anger. The hallway smelled of furniture polish and the lingering aroma of warm toast. Up close, I could also smell strong coffee on his breath, but then he always drank too much of it, a symptom of his commitment to ridiculously long hours of writing and traveling. His face nuzzled into my neck, his skin warm, his thick curls uncombed and brushing his shoulders, just the way I liked it. I ran my fingers into it, tangling tightly, tugging back his head. Hard, just the way he liked it…

A Little Known Horror of War

July 27, 2009 | Excerpts, Friends

As an avid reader, I appreciate all genres and like to keep up with the latest release in each. One of my favorite authors is Robert Appleton because I absolutely love the diversity of his work. Rob writes in a variety of genres, mainly science fiction and historical. His latest book, SUNSET ON RAMREE is a rare insight to a little known event that took place in the Bay of Bengal during WWII.

Among Rob’s recent sci-fi publications are Charlie Runs Rings Around the Earth, The Basingstoke Chronicles, and the thrilling Eleven-Hour Fall survival trilogy. He also writes the imaginative Esther May Morrow’s paranormal series as Arthur Everest. A keen footballer and kayaker, he lives in the hills of Lancashire, England.

His publishers include Eternal Press, Uncial Press, Lyrical Press, Club Lighthouse Publishing, and Damnation Books.

Be sure to check out Rob’s WEBSITE to learn more about this talented author and his other excellent books or at his Mercurial Times BLOG.

SUNSET ON RAMREE

Historical, War, Suspense
E-book & Paperback
$3.95
Word Count 15,000
Released July 7, 2009

Blurb:
It is the deadliest crocodile attack ever recorded. On February 19th, 1945, one thousand Japanese soldiers retreated into the fetid mangrove swamps of Ramree Island hoping to escape their British enemy. However they soon discovered that the sixteen kilometre stretch of marshland that promised to offer safe cover, had delivered them straight into the jaws of hell.

Inspired by true events during WWII, Sunset on Ramree follows young musician-turned-soldier Shigeatsu Nakadai and his best friend, Kodi, as they head ever deeper into danger.

Excerpt:
I try to conjure a memory of before the war—something, anything to distract me—but draw a blank every time. I purse my lips to whistle a familiar tune, but nothing comes out. I shut my eyes tight and roll them inward until they ache and release a heavy pulse. The screams and shots and calls for surrender are still there. Kodi and Sobiku are still there. I imagine the reed of a clarinet between my lips and the long, sustained breath given to making sweetly aching music. But nothing comes out. No tune, no melody, no woodwind to soothe the mangroves. Just the damp, cold harmonics of the night. I’m lost without music, and there is no music on Ramree.

Sloane’s Review
Sunset on Ramree is a book you not only read, but live. Each word draws you in deeper to experience the fear and terror along with the lead characters, Shigeatsu and Kodi. This is one book I will not forget for a very long time and highly recommend you read. The e-book is available at ETERNAL PRESS. You can order the paperback at AMAZON

Has Randall McAllister gone to the dogs?

Once again, his witchy teenage sisters screwed up a spell at his expense, leaving him a black Scottie. Doing what comes naturally to dogs, he collides with the car of the town veterinarian. Living with the compassionate Amanda Livingston, he discovers the love of his dreams.

Will he spend his life as a lap dog to the woman he knows is his soul mate, or will he be able to break the dog spell?

Excerpt:
“What’s wrong?” Damn, his voice sounded more like a growl. He looked down. Holy shit. Black, curly fur covered a small paw where his long fingers should have been. His heart raced. His body quivered in fear. What the hell was going on here?

“Mirror. Get me a mirror. Quick!” He looked up at the freckled faces hovering above him. “Get me a damn mirror! Have you gone deaf?”

Getting no answer to his question, he turned to search for the needed object himself, but fell flat on his stomach with a thud.

“Oh dear. What have you done?” Riz demanded of her sibling.

“Me?” Mel glared at her twin. “You’re the one who wanted to get the book down. I know better than to listen to you. We always get in trouble with your brilliant ideas.”

“My ideas? You’re the one who wanted to get the book down to begin with.”

“Did not.”

“Did too.”

Damn it all, couldn’t they see he had some kind of problem here? There was no time for another of their stupid arguments.
A growl and sharp bark startled Rand with its menace.

Both sisters jumped and their verbal battle came to a halt.

“Oh dear, I don’t think he knows.” Riz chewed on her bottom lip.

“What? What don’t I know?”

“You tell him.” Mel pushed her twin forward.

“No. You.” Riz stepped back.

“One of you damn well better tell me something, and fast, or I’m going to gnaw your ankle off.” Rand’s brow furrowed at the thought. Now where did that come from?

Simma, the missing link, walked up and shot a haughty look of disgust in Rand’s direction. “Probably from the fact that you’re a dog, and you’re thinking like one.”

“I’m a what?”

“I don’t believe I stuttered, my friend. You’re a dog. A black Scottie dog, to be precise.” Simma’s ears flicked. “Sort of cute, if one likes dogs.” The large black cat sat down and lifted a paw for inspection before he licked the fur and proceeded to wash his face. “It appears your sisters have once again blundered in their magical efforts.” The cat followed his comment with a loud yawn. “Oh well, not my problem.”

He ambled out of the room, but Rand resisted the urge to chase after him. The cat would have to wait. The trouble-making witches in front of him were the priority of the moment. If he could get this walking issue coordinated, he’d show them a thing or two.

At this level, ankle biting presented a more probable alternative to sending them to their rooms. Besides, the bubbleheads didn’t seem to understand his thoughts or his barks.

Come to think of it, the only communication he’d made since going to the dogs was with the damned cat. Now that was scary.

The twins held a whispered argument by the sliding glass door to the patio while he struggled to synchronize the movement of four legs. After several attempts, he finally succeeded in achieving the desired standing position, with all four legs working together instead of against each other. Baring his teeth, he advanced toward them in a stalking crouch. A growl rumbled low in his throat.

“Oh, crap. I need to pee.” The urge hit suddenly, and he rushed toward the door.

“Open the door. He’s going to bite us.”

Rand wasn’t clear about which girl screamed the command or who opened the door, and he didn’t care as he rushed out into the evening dusk to find the nearest bush.

I can’t believe I’m peeing on a tree trunk with my hind leg in the air before any and everyone. Oh well, he’d better get used to it until he could figure out a way to communicate with the two brain trusts and get them to undo the damage they’d done.

What was that? Something moved by the fence. Damn, it’s the Henderson’s cat. I hate that big yellow tom. Can’t understand why Simma hangs out with him. Well, I’ll just show him who’s boss.

No, wait. I will not lower myself to act like… a dog. Oh, but it’s a cat, and a cat that I hate.

Rand bounded across the yard in pursuit of what was now his natural enemy. He heard his name screamed and the sound of running footsteps as the twins chased after him, but he didn’t slow his stride. He wasn’t sure at what point he could no longer hear their voices. The only certainty was that he wanted to do major damage to the beast that zigzagged in front of him.

Man, I’m tired. Doesn’t that jerk ever slow down? His sides ached from running, and he panted so loud, the whole neighborhood probably heard him. But he refused to give up on the chase. Wait. He’s cutting across the street, and there’s a concrete barrier there. If I cut over here, maybe I can catch him when he doubles back.

The sound of screeching tires alerted Rand that something wasn’t right. Along with the sound came the sensation of flying through the air, then everything went black.
